The gemstone Garnet has age old relationship with the Greek. It is said that the Garnet family evolve from the Greek nomenclature with its various names imparting to it. According to Greek legendry Garnet the gemstone of close relationship is also classified with Pomegranate. The common factor which binds these two individual things together is the story of Hades and Persephone. It is said that once Hades (the ruler of underworld and death) abducted Persephone (Goddess of Innocence and spring and the Queen of the Underworld) and took her to the underworld. Zeus and Demeter (Parents of Persephone requested Hermes (the messenger of Zeus) to get back their daughter from Hades. On the sight of Hermes, Hades knew that he have to return her to his brother. But before leaving her he gifted her with the seeds of Pomegranate as he knew the sweetness of the ripened seeds would definitely bring her back to him. Infact she did return to Hades and stayed with him in the underworld for every three months in a year bringing winter to the Earth. Hence since then pomegranate (and garnet) is symbolizes eternity, a gift of love’s attraction, quick return and an estranged love. According, to ancient folklore it is said that garnet is stone for loved ones who travel and a crystal that can heal the broken bonds between lovers.
